An organisation and a legal entity are both considered clients in the SAP R/3 (R stands for Real-time) system. The most important unit of an organisational structure is a client. It includes the master data for many business processes, including those involving clients, merchandise, and suppliers. In the SAP R/3 system, a customer is represented by a three-digit number.
A company code is a special four-character alphanumeric code that designates a separate business with legal standing.
A division of the company code is the personnel area. It is recognised as an organisational unit that represents a division inside an organisation that is set up in accordance with standards for payroll accounting, time management, and personnel administration. An alphanumeric code of four characters is used to represent it. For instance, a corporation’s personnel area code is CORP.
